Vote for a visible County Councillor working for YOU

I am your local councillor for Skerton. I have lived in the area for 20 years and am standing again as your Labour and Co-operative county councillor in May 2021.

I have worked hard to support the local community, obtaining a grant for Skerton Community Centre when I was elected in 2017. I am currently working with fellow councillors towards the success of Eden Project North. While this will be in Morecambe, the job opportunities will be spread throughout the district, both for the project itself and from increased visitors to the area.

I am committed to working with local partners and stakeholders to find a new lease of life for the Skerton High School site.

Supporting the community’s voice on local issues

Supporting children’s play areas
I am working with residents and council officers to re-introduce the play area in Lymm Avenue by the college. This was a much-loved asset, but the equipment had to be removed as it was getting old and unsafe. It is particularly important that children have a safe area to play.
Working to improve Skerton High School site
I will work with officers and stakeholders to find a new use for this site. It is crazy that the county council are spending £30,000 every year on security while this building is out of use. The adjoining Chadwick centre is forced to take pupils by minibus to have sport activity offsite.
Fixing roads and potholes
The county council are not repairing all the potholes. I will work to introduce permanent patching using the planned extra £20 million which Labour commit to spend on the county’s roads over the next 4 years.

My pledges to you

FREE SWIMMING AND HEALTHY LIVING
Under 16’s should have access to healthy exercise regardless of income in the school holidays. Over 50’s and the disabled should be able to have free swimming via GP prescribing.

WELFARE RIGHTS TELEPHONE SERVICE
Those who need help the most often find it hardest to access it. I will bring back a telephone service to help those who struggle with technology to access support.

WORK TO RE-USE THE SKERTON HIGH SITE
I will work with the community and other stakeholders to find a way to make use of this site.

INVEST IN HEALTH IMPROVEMENT
Improve county funding for a smoking cessation clinic, obesity, drug and alcohol addiction services and community mental health projects.

EDEN PROJECT NORTH
I will work with councillors and Eden to ensure the successful development of Eden Project North.
