On Thursday 14th June 2018, over 50 members of Morecambe and Lunesdale Labour Party plus members from neighbouring constituencies were joined by our Parliamentary Candidate Lizzi Collinge and MP for Wigan, Lisa Nandy at a Fish and Chip fundraiser held at Halton Mill. Halton Mill is situated in one of our rural wards, Halton With Aughton, won by Kevin Frea with just 2 votes in a by-election, back in September 2017.

The theme for the evening was the need for Labour to properly engage with Rural communities following the release of the Fabians report –  How Labour can reconnect with the Countryside and the Rural Conversations initative which Morecambe and Lunesdale have been running during 2018 visiting Silverdale, Warton, Overton and will be in Hornby on the 23rd June.

Lizzi spoke about her experiences growing up in a very rural area and the challenges that brings. Also that Labour has alot to offer Rural communities, on transport, elderly care and the NHS for starters.

Lisa spoke about the very real need to return power to communities and move the decision making closer to the people those decisions impact upon, listening to those communities on issues like planning and service provision. It was an empowering and passionate speech.
