Local Governement Committees (LGC) are based on council boundaries, allowing several Constuency Labour Parties that are part of the same local authority area to meet together. Membership comprises the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Labour Group of Councillors, Councilllirs, representatives from CLPs, theCo-operative Party and trade unions.

The LGC recruit and shortlist potential candidates for Lancaster City Council elections.

It co-ordinate campaign activities and develop the election strategy locally.

It also liaise with the Labour Group about local government issues and input into the manifesto for local elections.

The Lancaster District LGC comprises of Morecambe and Lunesdale and Lancaster and Fleetwood constituencies. Morecambe and Lunesdale sends delegates each year to the LLGC, which must be gender balanced.
