Morecambe and Lunesdale Constituency Labour Party members had a chance to meet their new Prospective Parliamentary candidate Lizzi Collinge last Friday evening (16th March), at a fundraising event held at the Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe. The event was hosted by MC Andy East, who welcomed guests to the delicious three course dinner.

The evening’s special guest speaker was Cat Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Voter Engagement and Youth Affairs, from nearby Lancaster & Fleetwood, who was keen to be there to support her close friend Lizzi.

Lizzi, who is currently the Lancashire County Councillor for Lancaster East and was part of Cat’s team during the 2015 and 2017 elections, thanked members for giving her their support in the recent Parliamentary candidate selection process. Lizzi spoke of the extremely warm welcome she’d received since being selected and how she is looking forward to working together to build support in the constituency, provide a strong voice for the people in Morecambe and Lunesdale, and deliver a Labour victory at the next General Election. Lizzi also spoke of the great support she had received from Cat, right from becoming involved in the Labour Party.

Members, who enjoyed a 3 course dinner followed by coffee and mints, had the opportunity to sit and chat informally with both Lizzi and Cat who moved seats after each course. There was a raffle with prizes which included a copy of the Queen’s Speech signed by Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn MP and House of Commons mints signed by all the members of the Shadow Cabinet.

Lizzi said “I had such a good night at the Strathmore with lovely people. It was so nice to sit back and relax and not be following an agenda. Special thanks to Cat for speaking, and for all her support, and to Andy for his MC skills. Thank you to all the members who were able to attend; for those that couldn’t make the date there will be lots of other social events across the constituency over the next few months.”
