Morecambe and Lunesdale Labour at Morecambe Pride

Morecambe Pride organisers were told on Wednesday (just ONE MONTH before the event is scheduled to take place) that they aren’t to receive Morecambe Town Council funding to support the popular event.

This just two months after Lib Dem and MBI councillors voted to raise the council tax precept by a massive 50%, claiming that the increase would be spent on festivals and events. £90K is earmarked in the MTC budget and a new events manager is now in post…

Labour activists picketed the Morecambe Town Council meeting on Thursday to urge councillors to reconsider. Please sign our petition below to show your support for Pride in Morecambe.

Robert Mee of Out in the Bay said:

‘We just heard on Wednesday (29 June) that the Town Council have turned down our funding application. I would strongly urge the council to reconsider. This is the third year we’ve run Morecambe Pride and it’s got bigger and better every year, attracting more visitors and showing the town as an open and equal place. The decision not to fund Pride reflects badly on Morecambe. We want our young people to be able to be proud of who they are and feel supported by their town.’
