Services are being cut or sold off, and our local hospital is under threat. You just can't trust the Tories with the NHS.
Along with the cost of living crisis, without doubt the NHS is an issue of huge concern to residents who I meet. I get questions about it every day. This week on my Facebook page (Amina Lone For Morecambe and Lunesdale) I was sent a question by a Morecambe resident asking about the decision to cut Vascular Services at the local Royal Lancaster Infirmary and relocate them to Preston.
The decision to cut these services was taken in the summer of 2013 by the Tory Health Secretary, and Morecambe's Tory MP did absolutely nothing to oppose the cuts or speak up for residents.
It is a decision that highlights the crisis in our NHS, and the contempt in which the public are held by the Tories who make promises that services are safe to our faces, but behind our backs they are planning cuts and hatching plans for privatisation. They think we won't notice. They think we won't care. We will prove them wrong.
Our Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is facing £25million in cuts, and to balance the books one of our hospitals could have to close. NHS Pharmacy services are being sold off to a private company more interested in profit than patient care, and there is talk of Maternity services being moved from the RLI. Enough is enough.
I am making the protection of services at the RLI and across the Bay my priority.
I have launched a 'Save Our Hospitals' campaign to highlight the threat to our local NHS services, and I will be defending local services in every way possible as your Labour candidate and, if elected next May, as your Labour MP. Morecambe and Lunesdale need an MP who will speak up for them and defend one of our greatest, most treasured institutions which belongs to each and every one of us - our NHS.
Please join the campaign by signing our petition HERE. Our NHS needs us to defend it from the Tories, their cuts and their sell-offs. Will you join us?
