Prospective Labour MP calls for more funding to regenerate Morecambe’s seafront

August 27th, 2013

Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Morecambe and Lunesdale, Amina Lone, has slammed paltry government funding for seaside towns and called for more money to help regenerate Morecambe’s seafront and boost jobs and growth in the town.

Amina’s intervention follows last week’s announcement that the Tory-led government is providing just £29m spread across all seaside towns in the UK next year for regeneration.

Amina said:

“In the last year of the Labour government, £127m was invested in the regeneration of seaside towns. Only a Tory-led government would cut funding by three quarters and then call it an increase.

“£29m will do very little to regenerate Morecambe and create jobs in the town. The Tories are letting Morecambe down. We need serious and sustained long term investment and a clear strategy for regeneration. That is what I will be fighting for over the next two years and I will make it a priority if elected in 2015.”
